Ponderings

Psalms and Songs and Such

So… just wanna bless your socks a bit off this weekend and tell you about an album that’s been rockin’ my world all week. “Psalms, Live” by Shane & Shane. Oh, and apparently there’ a Volume 1 and Volume 2, which is minus the ‘live’ part, if you’d prefer. I personally love live music and my 2 cents… this album is absolutely fantastic and I can’t stop listening to it, which of course means I must share it. Because, here’s the deal… we need to get God’s Word into our heads! Think of It as The Narrator of our stories. It’s the only way we can take a thought captive, renew our minds, or battle the enemy (2 Corinthians 10:5, Romans 12:2, Ephesians 6:17). And, personally, I can’t think of an easier way to memorize anything, than through music.

Here’s a taste…

(I couldn’t find a link to the live version for this next one, but this Psalm itself is one of my most favorite parts in all the Bible, so I had to include it…)

Now, one more thing… I’ve got a confession to make. God is oh, so faithful and steadfast! (Not my confession. That’s truth!)

About 3 1/2 years ago I heard the song below (also from Shane & Shane) for the first time. I will never forget the moment, either, because I had been filled with such fear over circumstances in my life that I had no control of and when I heard the song I slammed down the lid on my laptop and literally ran from the room crying. (Hello, Daytime Emmy!) The reason?? Well, this song was SO not true of me and I couldn’t see how it ever could be because I just didn’t believe it and, most importantly, didn’t want to believe it. (I mean, who wants to think about potential tragedy and pain and God allowing any of it??) So, I fought it and confessed it (He wasn’t enough… I needed Him, plus “fill in the blank”!) and wish I could tell you I overcame it, but nope. I’m still working it out with God. Or, more truthfully, He’s working it out in me. But honestly, these last few months, I keep hearing this song over and over and, you know… I can actually listen now! Which is so awesome…. because it’s truth and important and most importantly, a place He wants to develop (it would seem) in me. Now, it’s my goal to be able to say, as Job, “Though you slay me, yet I will praise you.” You know why?

Because, Jesus.

I’m a work in progress. I pray you are farther along. Here’s to giving God ALL of us!
